Hot dip galvanization is a process in which steel sheets are immersed in a bath of molten zinc to form a protective zinc coating. This coating provides excellent corrosion resistance and enhances the durability of the steel sheets.

The zinc coating provides exceptional corrosion protection to the steel sheets by acting as both a physical barrier and a sacrificial anode. If the steel sheet is scratched or exposed to a corrosive environment, the zinc coating sacrifices itself to protect the underlying steel from corrosion.

To further enhance the corrosion resistance of hot dip galvanized steel sheets, magnesium is added to the zinc coating. Magnesium improves the self-healing properties of the coating and provides increased protection in aggressive environments.

The selection of the appropriate zinc coating thickness depends on factors such as the expected service life, exposure conditions, and industry standards or specifications.
